1x12 MW Biomass Power Plant from Empty Fruit Bunch

Project Summary

Project Code:XGPE-PEL525-07RPWR
Project:1x12 MW Biomass Power Plant from Empty Fruit Bunch
Sector:Other
S&E Categorization:B-1
Location:Aceh Tamiang
Status:Active
First Disclosure Date:November 2019

Summary

In November 2019, IIF offer senior loan facility for 1×12 MW Biomass Power Plant Project in Aceh Tamiang, Aceh. The senior loan facility is amounting up to IDR 250 billion or up to 70% of the total Project cost. The project will utilize the Empty Fruit Bunch (“EFB”) from palm oil mill to produce green electricity and help to increase the electricity supply in Aceh Tamiang. The EFB was previously burnt using incinerator, as means of disposal. However, in 2016, the use of incinerator was banned and resulting in EFB piled up at the plant area. Several POMs have tried to utilize the EFB to be used as additional fertilizer, but the rate of EFB utilization is slower than the rate of EFB production. Thus, the biomass power plant project provides the solution to overcome the EFB’s disposal challenge. The biomass power plant also supports GoI’s initiative in achieving its target to increase renewable sources portion to 25% of total Indonesia’s energy mix in 2025.
