30 June 2022 – Indonesia Infrastructure Finance continues to support the telecommunications infrastructure sector through a refinancing agreement for the Nusantara 1 Satellite project of 500 billion rupiah. This refinancing agreement was signed on June 29, 2022 at the office of PT PSN Enam Indonesia (“PSN 6”). The signing was between PSN 6 and PT Indonesia Infrastructure Finance (IIF), PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (“BCA”), and PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (Persero) (“SMI”). The three financial institutions were officially appointed by PSN 6 as Joint Mandated Lead Arrangers and Bookrunners.
President Director of IIF, Reynaldi Hermansjah said that this agreement is IIF’s ongoing contribution to the development of telecommunications infrastructure in Indonesia. Since IIF entered the telecommunications infrastructure sector, IIF has continued to support this sector in various segments such as fiber optic backbone (Palapa Ring), internet service providers, telecommunications tower providers, telecommunications operators, and data centers. “Our participation in this agreement will be a door opener for the next satellite project, as well as complement IIF’s portfolio segment in the telecommunications sector. After this agreement, it is hoped that other prospective projects will follow,” said Reynaldi.
The Nusantara 1 satellite is the first satellite in Indonesia to use High Throughput Satellite (HTS) technology which will provide broadband internet services with a much larger capacity than the existing conventional satellites. The coverage area of this satellite covers all corners of Indonesia and covers the entire Southeast Asia region. In addition to expanding and reaching the internet in Eastern Indonesia, this satellite is also an effort to equalize internet access to villages and is expected to increase national economic growth.
The Nusantara 1 satellite is an Indonesian geo-stationary communication satellite (GEO) owned by Pasifik Satelit Nusantara which has been developed since 2017 and successfully launched into orbit from the Kennedy Space Center in Orlando, USA and is fully operational since October 2019.
