Summary
In December 2024, IIF signed an agreement to finance development of the Intercity Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM) for the Kampar Regency & Pekanbaru City. The project has completed development of a water treatment plant (WTP) with a production capacity of 500 liters per second (lps). IIF facility will support the construction of secondary and tertiary distribution pipelines. This WTP uses a conventional method to treat water from the Kampar River. Its operations include water intake, aeration, coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, disinfection using chlorine gas, storage in a reservoir, and distribution. The Project allocates approximately 70% of its total capacity to domestic consumers and 30% to non-domestic (industrial area). This investment will contribute to the delivery of clean water approximately to 71,376 households across Kampar Regency & Pekanbaru City, increasing the coverage of safe and clean water supply for the community by 0.14% and 1.10% from the 2019 – 2024 national target established by Ministry of Public Works.
IIF’s Social and Environmental Due Diligence categorizes this investment as a Category B (medium risk) project, where the identified social and environmental risks can be managed through mitigation measures that adhere to IIF’s Social and Environmental Standards.
