Summary
In July 2021, IIF signed an agreement to participate in senior term loan for construction of Drinking Water Supply Infrastructure in Pekanbaru amounting up to IDR 176.17 Billion. This project aims to rehabilitate the existing water treatment plant (WTP) and construct the new WTP to increase the current WTP capacity from 340 lps to 750 lps during 6 years’ construction period. The current coverage of water distribution service in Pekanbaru City is still very low which can only serve 53,568 people or around 5.45% of total Pekanbaru City population (i.e. 983,356 people in 2020). The project is estimated to serve around 61,000 house connection covering 7 districts and 31 urban villages. The raw water will be sourced from Siak River and the WTP facility uses around 42,277 m2 land area in Tirta Siak Sub-Dstrict (formerly Tampan Sub-District), Payung Sekaki Dsitrict, Pekanbaru City. The project is conducted through a Public Private Partnership (“PPP”) scheme, where the Government of Pekanbaru City has assigned the PDAM Tirta Siak to act as the Government Contracting Agency (GCA) based on the Decree of the Mayor of Pekanbaru number 723/2018. In terms of Social and Environmental aspects, this Project is categorized as Category B project where the impacts can be avoided and mitigated through an appropriate planning and implementation of mitigation measures during the rehabilitation, construction, and operation stages
